The Shaykh is a member of the International Union of Islamic Scholars; Professor of Islamic Legal Theory (UsĹ«l) & Maxims (Qawa’id) at As-Salam Institute.
He is also the Professor of Islamic Jurisprudence at the European Institute for Human Sciences & also the Senior Imam of the “Muslim Welfare House” in London.
Shaykh Ammar is committed to the revival of traditional Islamic scholarship through the study of classical texts, with a focus on the Maliki School of Jurisprudence.
He is also one of the few English-speaking Mauritanian scholars in the World and is able to teach the Islamic Sciences to the highest level, in various languages (Arabic, French, English and Spanish).
After graduating from the prestigious University College London (UCL) with a Bachelor’s degree in Biology, he conducted his Islamic studies in the UK, completing a diploma in Shari’ah at the renowned European Institute of Humaan Science.
Shaykh Mohammed served as an Imam of Muslim Welfare House in Finsbury Park for 7 years. It was there where his response to the terror attack of 2017 was globally recognised, for which he became internationally renowned and was also awarded an OBE. He then served as the Senior Imam at the East London Mosque between 2018-2023.
In addition to regularly delivering Friday sermons, Shaykh Mohammed provides ongoing religious guidance to the community, weekly Islamic classes, one-to-one counselling and tarbiyah in London and Luton, and engages in various outreach and interfaith projects nationally.
Shaykh Mohammed has been under the tutelage and direct guidance of the renowned Mauritanian scholar and faqih, Shaykh Ammar wild Salim al Shinqeeti, for the last 6 years.
